Although Merivale's Slip Inn might be more well known as a club venue (and more specifically as the spot Princess Mary met her future husband), it's worth a look-in during the week for a bite to eat as well.
The main menu doesn't stray too far from modern pub offerings, but dishes to err on the fancier side of things. Instead of mash, the chicken schnitzel is served with a red wine jus and a potato and prosciutto salad (though you can have the traditional sides), and even the steak sandwich had been dressed up with a tomato and saffron aioli.
A separate Thai menu offers diners a slightly cheaper dining option, with all the classics including green chicken curry and banana flower salad.
