She’s a good sport - this week's beauty trend

For your next big night out try the newest trend athletic chic…

Ever since I spotted Gisele in this sleek and sporty fashion spread in a recent issue of Vogue, I’ve been a little obsessed with modern athletic chic. I’ve embraced this trend wholeheartedly, wearing Stella McCartney tennis dresses and slicking my hair into a high ponytail. You see, I don’t possess those enviable fine-boned, long-limbed model features, nor do I possess ample, sensual curves. I hate to admit it, but I’m athletic. I train hard to keep healthy and it shows.

I’m in no way heading for a body building championship, but I am trim and very toned. I guess the only problem is that a strong, athletic body shape is not held in high feminine esteem these days. Unfortunately, either thin or curvy are the ultimate shapes, despite athletic being the healthiest, hardest won option. So I am happily embracing my moment in the body shape spotlight.

The spate of sporty neon lycra fashion and sleek makeup looks we saw on the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2012 are my style inspiration, even though thin, weakling {albeit beautiful} models are sporting them. I could probably bench press one of them. Here is one of my favourite athletic hair and makeup looks to copy right now for Spring/Summer 2012…

I love the glossy, polished complexion that Charlotte Tilbury for MAC Cosmetics created for Nicole Farhi’s collection here. The whole look is sleek, sharp with brushed up eyebrows and a strong lip focus.

The sensual second skin was gently structured with MAC Pearl Cream Colour Base. Eyes were pared down and pretty with just nude pencil liner and no mascara {perfect for gym bunnies}

Tilbury used a variety of MAC lip colours mixed together to create this pop neon pink lip. A good copycat option is MAC Party Parrot {available February as part of the Iris Apfel collection} which gives a covetable candy pink.

To finish off this strong and simple makeup look hair was pulled into a high, smooth and perfect pony. Super teamed with your new neon skintight tennis dress…
